Random: I used to have a makeup obsession

I’m not referring to drugs or alcohol, something that every girls wants and majority of women have:  makeup.  Like most girls, I went through a phase in my life where a lot of my money and time was spent on makeup.  I look back now and saw how silly I was:  I purchased a few items or so every week and occassionally a huge haul once in a while.  I don’t have a huge makeup stash like most beauty gurus and collectors out there, which I am glad about because I have little interest in it now!  Ever since I got into working out at the gym in the mornings, I have been too lazy to bring my makeup with me after I shower…I’m kinda lazy that way.  I find it’s a huge hassle especially with my brushes getting dirty, smushed, etc.

In total I felt like I spent over $400 in total from Dec 2008 to Jan 2010.  I’m sure $130 was for MAC products.  I normally don’t purchase MAC because of the price.  I remember returning a $40 brush that went unused because I couldn’t justify the cost.  There was a warehouse sale in the GTA, so I figured that I pick up MAC items that a lot of beauty gurus raved about for a really cheap price.  After that was anew years resolution to my boyfriend to not purchase any makeup for a year.  I did really well because I had some urges, but I was able to get through despite Temptalia.com and other beauty guru Youtube channels.

I don’t think I have ever used up anything.  Some products were either:

  1. Thrown out due to it being expired
  2. Given away (I loved doing this)
  3. Swapped on MakeupAlley.com
  4. Used up (Maybe like 0.5% of the total products I have :P)

I decided to go through my drawers today to toss out of anything that I know for sure I wouldn’t use…like plum lipstick.  What was I thinking?–I’m not a fan of dark lip colours.  Some of it ended in the garbage and some on MUA.  A lot of my coloured eyeshadows ended up in the bin.  Oh well.  My eyes are fairly sensitive anyway so it’s for the best.

I hope that once I start working I’ll use my makeup a lot more and faster.  I had a feeling that I wasn’t using my blush effectively because I’ve been using it constantly for years now and it’s still 99% full!

What are come past additions you have gone through?

Schools out!

Finally, school is done for me (at least for now).  I picked up a graduation present for myself as soon as exams were over: a  new triathlon bike!  I found this by luck on kijiji.  It is a Fuji Aloha 1.0 and hardly used; it only had 3000km on it and it was up for $600!  I read reviews on how great this bike was for entry level triathletes.  The bike was 56cm and I was a little concerned that it would not fit me at all because I got measured and came up to a 53cm.  However, that did not stop me from seeing the bike!  I am glad I did since it turns out that my torso is on the long side, allowing me to reach the aero bars quite easily.  The guy selling it was totally cool and was super duper nice (and gave the bike to me for $570 instead!)  Sweet.  The bike will need a bit of a tune up and adjustments.  One thing I have to get for sure are pedals and helmet; I am probably going to get strap pedals to start until I get a part time job for the summer.

My swimming is going well as well.  I realized that I can swim around 500-600m without too much of a problem:  I guess I didn’t eat enough before heading to the pool and ended up feeling sick to my stomach after swimming 500m (after 20 mins!)  I’ll give it another try tomorrow and see how that goes.  This was what I did, in case anyone wanted to know:

- 100m swim warm up
- 6 x 25m (2 kick, 2 pull, 2 swim)
-100m swim
-6 x 25m (2 kick, 2 pull, 2 swim)
-100m swim (cool down)

I did 17.2km (round to 18km..ha) run today.  It was pretty brutal for the last 5km.  I was feeling really sick to my stomach and my hips and legs were in a lot of pain.  I have a feeling it was because the gels that I brought with me did nothing (not GU).  I’ll have a review posted a bit later.

I hope the weather is nicer soon…we still have snow over here..

Hello Again

Hello to the very few people who come across my blog:  I will be back soon, school totally got me and since I am graduating, I had quite a bit to work on.  That will soon be behind me and I can start my real life soon.

I picked up triathlon training this winter.  I have been going to spin classes 2x a week, weights 4x a week, running 4x a week, and swimming 3x a week.  It’s not that easy to keep up with a schedule like that, but I was doing fine for 2.5 months until I got injured, then when I recovered from that injury, I got sick, and when I recovered, it was exams.  So my training has slowed down a little bit, but I am hoping to pick up after this Friday…my last undergraduate exam…ever!

Stay tuned, I hope to update this blog more when school is done.
